Obituary of Charles T. Romand
Colonie – Charles T. Romand, 77, of Colonie, passed on Tuesday January 23, 2024 in his home surrounded by his children. Charles was born in Colonie, NY on October 28, 1946 and was the son of the late Martha Johnson Romand and Charles A. Romand. Charles was raised in Colonie and was a Graduate of Colonie central high school. After graduation he joined the service in the Naval branch where he spent four years serving before returning to civilian life and joining the Albany Police Department, where he spent his career and retired as a Detective Criminal Investigator with honors and accommodations.
Throughout his time spent working for the City of Albany, Charles raised his three children to which he devoted his time and enjoyed participating in their many activities. He coached baseball teams, attended, and participated in many school functions, planned countless vacations, and ensured a solid foundation for them. After retirement Charles pursued his interests in motor home travel throughout the United States with his wife the late Kathleen Romand. Charles and Kathleen also enjoyed their time in the winter months at their second home in Florida with friends and family. Charles had countless interests throughout his life that included being a lifetime member of the American Legion, Fort Crailo Post No. 471, in Rensselaer, New York. As a member, he would join the Military commemorative Marching “Yankee Doodle Band” as a Trumpet player, and perform throughout the capital district in parades and concerts. Charles also loved and joined the privately owned Goolie Club where he spent his time with friends enjoying the Northern Adirondack experience.
Charles is the widower of the late Kathleen Romand; father of (sons) Richard (Ashley), Thomas and Michael (Jennifer); grandfather to Ashley, RJ, Kali, Noah, Gino, Rainelle, Isabella. Charles was also survived by his brother, James Romand and was uncle to his sons, James, Nicholas, and Kori. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Charles was a proud, productive, and participating citizen and he will be missed by all that knew him.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at the Reilly & Son Funeral Home, Colonie. Visiting hours will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the funeral home, prior to the service. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Colonie.
