Obituary of Elizabeth E. King

Elizabeth E. King passed away peacefully on May 7th, 2023, at the age of 97.  Betty was born in Mechanicville, New York on April 19, 1926.  She was predeceased by her parents, Lillian and John Sterling and her brothers Jim and Jack Sterling.

After graduating from Vincentian Institute in Albany, she married her childhood sweetheart Donald King and went on to have four children.  They made their home in Voorheesville, New York. Betty was employed by the Voorheesville School system and New York State Police, retiring in 1990.

She and Don were Snowbirds in Myrtle Beach, SC for many years in retirement.  They were married nearly 65 years until Donald’s death in 2010.

Betty loved working with fabrics and was a quilting enthusiast, making treasured quilts for all family and friends, and donating many over the years.  She also enjoyed baking almost every day, and gifted her neighbors, friends and family with her delicious cookies.

Betty was a great friend and had a volunteering spirit and was always on hand to help with any task asked of her.  One of the many activities she helped with was the Memorial Day race in Voorheesville.  She and other members of her gang kept the time of each runner in the race.

Betty was a loving Mother, survived by her children Steve King (wife Margaret), Kevin King (late wife Karen), Dennis King (wife Patty) and her favorite daughter Maureen King Gadbois (husband Jonathan).  Betty also leaves behind, and had a special relationship with her grandchildren Erin Biddle (Mike), Caitlin Oberwager (Andrew), Shannon King, Keegan King and Morgan Gadbois.  Betty lived an extraordinarily long life and had the pleasure to have known her great grandchildren Addison, Brenden, Cameron and Charlotte.  Betty also had a special relationship with her dear friend Susan Reilly and all the Reilly family, especially her goddaughter Cathy.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 25 Mountainview St, Voorheesville, NY 12186.  Visitation will be held from 9 - 10 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m.  Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Glenmont.
