Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret Mary Hone, RSCJ, who quietly served where she was called, died Sunday, November 24 at Teresian House in Albany, New York. Remembered for her quiet kindness and grace in all things, she will be remembered in a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 PM, Monday, December 2 in the Teresian House Chapel in Albany. Visitation will be at Teresian House immediately before the Mass. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart cemetery at Kenwood. Mar Hone was born in Rochester, New York, on September 8, 1925 and consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus soon after. Her parents were Alexander Bennett Hone and Margaret Antisdale Hone, both deceased. She entered the Society of the Sacred Heart in 1947 at Kenwood in Albany, New York, and made her final vows in 1956 at the Motherhouse in Rome. She is survived by a brother, Francis James Hone, of Manhasset, Long Island. Her sister, Ellen Kearney Hone, also a Religious of the Sacred Heart, to whom Mar was very close, died in 1975. Sister Hone is remembered with fond affection by RSCJ, alumnae, former colleagues and the staff at Teresian House who cared so lovingly for her in her final years. From 1947 to 1955, Sister Hone taught various grade levels at Convents of the Sacred Heart in Albany (Kenwood); Providence, Rhode Island (Elmhurst); Detroit, (Lawrence Avenue); New York City (91st Street); and Rochester, New York. In 1956, much to her surprise, she was called upon to handle the financial administration for the school at Lawrence Avenue. Meticulous by nature, she found she loved the work. She continued in that ministry until 1988 at the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan (1958-68), at Kenwood (1968-70) and at the Academies in Noroton and Greenwich in Connecticut (1970-88). She returned to Kenwood in 1988 and managed financial affairs and helped wherever needed until 2005, when she entered prayer ministry. A product of Sacred Heart education through and through, Sister Hone first attended the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Rochester, New York. When she recognized her call to religious life while still a student, she transferred to Kenwood Convent of the Sacred Heart, Albany. She later earned her Bachelor of Arts from Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart in New York City in 1947and her Master of Arts from the Manhattanville Graduate Division, in Albany, New York in 1952. One Religious of the Sacred Heart recalled Sister Hone, as "one of the most unfailingly gracious and kind women I have known in my life. She accepted the increasing diminishment of her last years with the same peace and even gentle humor that was always part of her." She was a person who found friendship and happiness wherever she was, finding God's blessings in every experience. Memorial contributions may be made to the Society of the Sacred Heart, 4120 Forest Park Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63108.
