Obituary of Alice Mensching
On Saturday, August 17, 2024, heaven gained an angel with the sudden, unexpected passing of Alice Mensching. “Awesome” Alice as she was affectionately known was born in Renfrew, Scotland and grew up in Clydebank. She immigrated to the United States in 1963 and spent several years working as a family domestic in Elmont, NY. It was there that she met her husband, Thomas, and the two were married in May of 1966.
For the last 55 years, she made Voorheesville her home. Alice worked as a Teacher’s Aide in the Voorheesville Elementary School for nearly 30 years, retiring in 2002.
Alice is survived by her husband Thomas Mensching, daughter Linda Mensching-Quinn (Jay) and grandson Devlin of Voorheesville and daughter Donna Mensching of Bothell, Washington and grand pets Parker, Katie and Alice. She is also survived by her brother William of Toronto, Canada, sister Agnes of Clydebank, Scotland and sister-in-law Maureen of Clydebank, Scotland along with many nieces and nephews. Alice was the daughter of the late Annie and William Lynch and was also predeceased by her siblings Mary Ann, John, Anna, Daniel and Edward.
Alice enjoyed traveling, shopping for bargains at her favorite stores (Hobby Lobby and Macy’s will really miss her), knitting/crocheting afghans and baby sweaters and blankets. In honor of her 70th birthday, she trained and completed the Disney Princess half-marathon in Orlando, Florida as well as completing many 5K and 10K race events. Besides annual trips to Scotland, she always enjoyed trips to Cape Cod and taking cruises. This past May she sailed on the Queen Mary 2 which had been on her bucket list since many members of her family had worked on the original Queen Mary and other Cunard ships. At the time of her passing, she was on her 19th cruise enjoying being waited on and meeting new and always interesting people. Over the years, many became treasured friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, August 29, 2024 from 4-7 PM at St. Matthew’s Church in Voorheesville. The funeral mass will be held on Friday, August 30th at 10 AM also at St. Matthew’s.
