The Milne basketball team did not win a game in the season before Coach Lewis came to the school. After he won the first game he coached there, I saw him in the locker room. He had a look of "silent satisfaction." That turned into a big smile a few years later when he hoisted the Sectional Championship trophy. He changed the mindset of the school. He gave us many happy memories of our time at Milne. RIP Coach, and thank you.

Coach Bob's passing ripples through all my years of Milne history, since my arrival at Milne as an 8th grader preceded his as boys athletic coach by only a year.
I last had the pleasure of spending some time with him at our 55th class reunion in 2019, a few months before the pandemic knocked us all for a loop. We spoke at length, laughed, didn’t solve any world problems…simply enjoyed the moment and memories relived.
Bob looked great, still way younger than his years, and 3 of us who led a Sectional Cross Country win in our senior year, presented the team trophy from that victory to Coach…a windfall from a SUNY Albany divestiture of long-stored Milne memorabilia the year before.
It is impossible to condense 60 years of communications and reconnects into a meaningful look back at a life, especially one as rich in love and enduring friendships as the life of Coach Bob Lewis. But I think the 2 pictures attached, one celebrating a great Cross Country season under Coach Lewis in ’63 and the other a renewal of that memory 59 years later at the Blabey’s lovely Helderberg retreat on Thompson Lake, somehow glued all the wonderful memories in between into a cohesive whole.
I will miss you greatly Coach, as will so many others who are better for having known, and shared history, with you. May you rest easy in God’s hands.

Very saddened by the death of our beloved "Coach" Lewis. So many years ago at Milne but the memories are still vivid. He had a special relationship with our class (1967) and as seniors we dedicated the yearbook to him. Thought the years he attended most of our reunions and some other events as well. We'll all miss him,

Bob will be greatly missed by Milne alumni, Summit at Mill Hill residents, and his extended family and friends. We at Summit appreciated his coaching skills in the summer of 2021, when we were the bocce-ball winners against the other Summit communities (see photo). May his memory be a blessing.
