Obituary of Martha M. Denninger
Colonie - Martha Mary Denninger “Marty” has been joyously reunited with her husband, Peter, and son, Paul in heaven on Saturday, May 7, 2022. Born on June 14, 1928, she was forever thankful for the opportunities presented to her throughout her long life. Along with her parents, at the age of six, Marty emigrated to the United States from Bavaria, Germany arriving through Ellis Island. Albany, NY. became their destination and family home. Marty was educated at Our Lady of Angels School in Albany, NY where she met her life-long best friend, Barbara Nagengast. She was a graduate of Albany High School and was later employed by Travelers Ins. Co. She enjoyed working part-time at Fanny Farmer Candies. Marty was a former member of the West Albany #2 Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and served as a Girl Scout leader. Throughout her life, she remained proud of her German heritage and remained close to her extended family in the Old Country. Visits across the ocean from both sides were memorable. Marty and Peter traveled extensively after retirement and enjoyed quality time at their camp in Saranac Lake. She was married to Peter A. Denninger for 67 years where they built their home in Colonie, NY. Marty cherished her wide circle of friends and remained active until Covid hindered her social ties. She was a devout Catholic, and was a role model to many. Marty was fun loving, generous and an advocate for causes. She made her children proud.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Mary Ann Denninger, her loving son, David P. Denninger, brother Alfred Schmitt, her dedicated God-daughter, Susie Nagengast, along with nieces and many cousins and extended family. She was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Karl Schmitt, her husband, Peter, her son, Paul F. Denninger and brother Frank Schmitt. Special thanks to Richard Boyer and his daughter, Cherie, for their long friendship and taking our mother to countless lunches, dinners, car rides and ice cream. She enjoyed every minute.
