So very sorry for your loss. I am so honored to have been able to get to know Ellie and care for her. Ellie was one of the best puzzle geniuses I know. She would get a bunch of pieces in before I even got one. 3 west is not the same. We all miss Ellie so much. Thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family!

Erma,
We love and miss you. Thank you for always being so caring and loving to Ning and myself. You taught me to work hard, pay attention to detail, and always approach life with a sense of humor. I will never forget quiet nights working on jigsaw puzzles, rowdy games of rummy, and summer days working in the yard, garden, or cleaning the cattails out of your pond. Summer evenings spent sitting and chatting with you and on the porch, while drinking a cup of cold diet twist up and eating a piece of spice cake, are among some of my favorite childhood memories. I was lucky to have you as a grandmother. Growing up, you were always supportive of me, whether it was being my sponsor for confirmation or cheering me on at my high school volleyball games with bells that used to hang on your door. Your witty sayings and jokes were second to none. I will never forget the time we shared and memories we made together. Hope you are working on a 5000 piece puzzle.
Bye Bye for now….
Love,
Josh, Ning, Sealy “The big city dog”, Zipper “I think he escaped from a zoo”,and Miki “ohh.. he’s a fat cat...”

To Know Erma
To know Erma is to play her in a game of Rummy,
To watch her get all four aces,
To hear her laugh out with pure delight,
And to play at least one more hand.
To know Erma is to know the relief of lunch at noon,
After a morning of pulling out dandelions and weeding the hedgerow,
Before an afternoon snooze, the Young and the Restless, endless puzzles,
All punctuated by two slightly offset grandfather clocks.
To know Erma is to eat her flat hamburgers with a fork,
To taste her grilled cheese with jam, her homemade veggie pizza,
Her stuffed peppers from the garden, macaroni salad, omelets with pepperoni,
And to know the best course of a meal: Food, salad, Jell-O, dessert.
To know Erma is to taste the desserts:
Chocolate cake with boiled frosting, jelly rolls, spice cake, brownies for camping,
The pies – all of the pies – especially lemon, with the perfect crust,
And those little cinnamon sugar rolls with leftover dough, warm from the oven.
To know Erma is to know the smell of her macaroni and sauce,
(A sauce that will never be matched - I can smell it from the path in the trees)
To smell Christmas Eve, rose candles, faint moth balls in the camper,
Laundry hanging out in the sun, smoke from the wood stove, inside, outside.
To know Erma is to know hot afternoons on the porch,
The taste of root beer floats out of pastel colored sippy cups,
To know long walks in the fields, in the snow, in the sun,
Dreaming of riding horses behind her house.
To know Erma is to know stories of her childhood on the farm,
Dolly the horse, skating on the creek, on the pond,
The joy of eating a fresh pea inside of a fresh cherry,
The freedom of running around in bathing suits during a summer rainstorm.
To know Erma is to know the meaning of teppy-walks and chibby,
Holy Toledo, Holy Cats, Yay high, Yay big, Walduce,
To know to make wishes on tractors of hay,
To know to make wishes on just about anything.
To know Erma is to know bravery and resilience,
To know hard work, playfulness, humor, unapologetic laughter.
To know Erma is to know the love of a daughter, wife, mother,
To know the love of grandmother, great-grandmother, great friend.
Erma, I will see you in every wild daisy, daffodil, puzzle,
Every red-headed woodpecker, every butler of coffee,
Every bell, spice cake, lemon meringue pie,
Erma, I will see you in every game of Rummy.
Erma,
Thank you for shaping me into the person that I am today. I know that you are in peace, and I hope that you are playing cards and having puzzle parties on a porch. Bye-bye, for now.
All of my love, forever,
Amanda

Ellie was always a kind welcoming mother in law and a true lady. She immediately made me feel part of the family I pray that she is at peace and happy and smiling once more.
