Obituary of Charles A. Shutter
COLONIE - Charles A. Shutter, 84, formerly of Dott Avenue, Colonie, died Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at the Albany County Nursing Home. Born in Albany, Charles was the son of the late Arthur and Grace Shutter. He served on the aircraft carrier, Coral Sea, during the Korean Conflict. After discharge, he served his community for 15 years in the motorcycle division of the Albany Police Department, followed by a career as a carpenter for 25 years with Local Union 270 in Albany. Charles was predeceased by his wife, Virginia Shutter; and is survived by his daughter, Sharon Gibbs; three grandchildren, Laura Weick (Paul) of Warrensburg, Maureen Wallace (Fred) of Hamilton, N.Y. and Clayton Gibbs of Rapid City, S.D. He is also survived by one great-granddaughter, Colby; and three great-grandsons, Charlie, Max and Thomas. He will be missed by his girlfriend, Helen Garrow. Funeral services will be Friday, November 17, at 1 p.m. in the Reilly & Son Funeral Home, 1200 Central Ave., Colonie. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Donations in his memory may be made to the ASPCA, Capital District Humane Association, P.O.
