Obituary of William M. Gipp
Voorheesville - William ("Bill") M. Gipp Jr., 97 died on July 31, 2017. Bill, born in Westmere was son of the late William Gipp Sr. and Mary E. Keil. His Gipp ancestors immigrated from Baden Germany in the early 1850's and shortly established a farm on what is now Gipp Road in Westmere. He was the fourth Gipp generation to farm in the area, continuing until the farm was sold for the construction of Crossgates Mall. In 1956 he diversied his farming from swine to cattle and crops by purchasing a farm in Voorheesville, where he resided until his death. Bill was a dedicated and proud farmer and was active in agricultural organizations such as Farm Bureau and SCS.
Bill enjoyed hunting as well as fresh and saltwater fishing and was a founding member of the Voorheesville Rod and Gun Club. In his retirement years, Bill enjoyed national and international cruises, tours and activities with the Guilderland Senior Center, and RV camping as member and officer in the local chapter of the Good Sams Club.
William M. Gipp is survived by his wife Dorothy (McKenna), sons Milton (Ann), William, Wayne (Linda), Richard (Lynne), Robert (Marion), Michael (Eileen), Frederick (Doreen), Peter (Pam Nolett), and daughters Ruth Ellen Markus (Frank), Margaret Wilcox (Ray), Mary Galea, Nancy Nolan, Susan Rowland (William), daughter in-law Donna Gipp, stepchildren John McKenna (Colleen), Dorothy Pickett (Francis), 27 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He is predeceased by wife Ruth (Dolder) and one son George.
Burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery and memorial at the Gipp Farm celebrating Bill’s long life were held on August 5th. The family offers thanks to the Hospice Inn, at St. Peter’s Hospital for providing dignity and comfort in Dad’s last hours.
