New Scotland - John F. Rooney, 91, died at his home surrounded by his family on Friday, March 24, 2017. Born in Los Angeles, CA, John moved to New Scotland 13 years ago. A veteran of the United States Army Air Corp, he served during World War II. He was employed as a Firefighter in Los Angeles for 29 years, retiring in 1980. He was a communicant of St. Matthew’s Church and a member of the New Scotland Kiwanis and the Voorheesville American Legion.
John was the husband of Jean Micheli Rooney and the late Kathryn Rule Rooney; father of Donald, Terence, Thomas, William, Lawrence, Richard, Mary Jo and David Rooney; brother of the late Donna Douglas and Joseph, Robert and Dorothy Rooney; stepfather of Karen Bouchey and Stephen and David Micheli. He was also survived by 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. For those who wish, memorial contributions to the Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205 would be appreciated.
