Obituary of Edward J. Dott

Colonie –Edward J. Dott, 88, died on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at the Albany County Nursing Home. The son of the late Edward R. and Charlotte Dott. Edward was born in Albany and graduated from Christian Brothers Academy as a First Lieutenant in 1946. He and his family have lived in the Town of Colonie their whole lives. He entered the family business, Edward Dott’s Garage, Inc., full time in 1946. Over the years he was a mechanic, service manager, and then became President of the firm for 25 years until he retired in 1986. He served in the US Army during the Korean War (1950-1953) and he was honorably discharged with a service connected disability. Edward was a devout Catholic and attended St. Pius X Church in Loudonville. He was a Charter Member of the Colonie Elks, the Albany Polish American Citizen Club, The Zaloga Post and a social member of the Fuller Rd. Fire Dept. and the West Albany Fire Dept.
Edward was married to the late Margaret Lansing Dott for over 45 years. He was the father of Edward “Chip” Dott (Sandy), and grandfather of Alexander and Courtney Dott. Edward was born into the Dott family as the oldest son, and he was one of ten children. Edward was survived by his sisters Virginia Birdsall, Emily Dott, and Frances Peterson; his brothers Thomas (Terry), and Leo (Nancy); and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his sisters Madelyn Sweeney and Lois Prusinski; his brothers Paul and Ralph Dott; his brother-in law John Lansing Jr. and his sister-in-law Joyce Lansing.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral mass at 12:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon at St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumite Road, Loudonville. Visitation will precede the services from 11:00 a.m.to 12:30 p.m. in the chapel at St. Pius X.
