Obituary of James A. Hanley

Hadley - James A. Hanley, 78, went to the Lord surrounded by his loving family at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady on Thursday, December 31, 2015. Raised in Colonie, James was the son of the late Marion Bartlett and James P. Hanley. He was a graduate of Albany High School and then served in the United States Navy. He was the co-owner of the former Hanley Sign Company in Latham and for the past 32 years has co-owned the Sacandaga Campground, a place where he loved to spend his summers with his family and friends. He was a member of the Conklingville Community Church, enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and shuffleboard with with friends. For many years, he has enjoyed travelling with his wife to Naples, Florida for the winter. Jim was the husband of 54 years of Barbara Piper Hanley; father of Jimmy Hanley (Candida) of Malta, John Hanley (Beth) of Loudonville, Audra Hanley (Kevin Burke) of Scotia and Donna Nasca (Joe) of Rochester; brother of Sheila McGrath (Gene) of Westerlo and the late Robert Hanley; brother-in-law of Carol Hanley, Margaret Pemberton and Robert Piper (Chris); grandfather of Kacey, Peter, David, James, Danny, Rachel, Jacob, Liam, John, Connor and Owen; and great-grandfather of Parker James. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 o’clock Monday, January 4, 2016 at the Reilly & Son Funeral Home, Colonie. Burial will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery in Saratoga. Calling hours will be Sunday from 3 - 6 p.m. in the funeral home.
