Obituary of Eleanor N. Haase

Bethlehem - Eleanor N. Haase died on Friday, November 13, 2015 at Beverwyck Eddy Green. Born on February 2, 1921 in Needham, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Ruby (Blackwood) Nelson. She was a 1939 graduate of Needham High School and was a 1942 registered nurse graduate of Children’s Hospital Nursing School, Boston, MA. In 1943, Eleanor married Dr. Ferdinand Haase, Jr. in Needham, MA. Eleanor moved in 1952 with her family to live in a historic farmhouse on Clipp Road in the town of New Scotland, NY where she resided for 53 years. She raised her three children and managed the farm raising many farm animals including chickens, pigs, goats, calves and sheep. She was a volunteer nurse at Albany Medical Center Hospital for many years. At age 85 years, Eleanor still mowed the lawn with her tractor and was an avid bridge player into her nineties. Survivors include her three children and six grandchildren: Dr. F. Carl Haase and his wife Lynn of Seattle, WA, their children Jennifer and John of Bainbridge Island, WA and Sonoma, CA; Mrs. Sarah Neal and her husband Dr. George Neal of Bedford, NH, their children Eleanor, Megan and Meredith of Derry, NH, Manchester, NH and Bedford, NH; Mrs. Christine Hansen, her husband Robert of Delmar, NY and their son Eric of Quincy, MA. Eleanor is also survived by nine great grandchildren: Nevada, Swift, Keaton, Keayana, Kealy, Benjamin, Marcus, Nathan, and Hannah. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 o’clock on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at the New Scotland Presbyterian Church, 2010 New Scotland Rd., Slingerlands, NY 12159.
