Obituary of Margaret Lillian Arndt

Albany-Margaret Rappleyea Arndt, 93, died Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at the Teresian House Nursing Home. Born and raised in Catskill, NY, Margaret lived with her husband, the late Herbert L. Arndt Jr., in Saugerties NY and Wappingers Falls, NY. Margaret lost her husband in May 1976 as a result of a car accident. Later in October 1976, Margaret sustained severe burns when she rescued her two youngest children from a house fire. She returned to live in Catskill with her children and extended family. She moved to Albany, NY in 1987 and lived with her daughter, Karen Arndt Santacrose, and son in law John Santacrose until moving to the Teresian House in 2010. In addition to her husband, Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Lyman and Mary (Connelly) Rappleyea, and brothers, John (Jack) and William Rappleyea. She is survived by her children, Russell Arndt, Hudson, NY, Tim (Judy) Arndt of Pleasant Valley, NY, Karen Arndt (John) Santacrose of Guilderland, NY, Mary Moore of New Baltimore, NY and Gerald Arndt (Michelle) of North Carolina. Also survived by grandchildren Raymond Arndt, Brian Arndt, Theresa Arndt, Eric Arndt, Emily Moore, Sean Arndt, Lillian Santacrose, Maria Santacrose, Tom Arndt, Natalie Arndt and Maggie Arndt. Also survived by sister in laws, Carol Heart of Arlington Height Il, and Jeannette Cuomo of Peoria AZ and numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret loved to travel, obtaining her 1st passport at age 70, she traveled to Ireland, Austria, Switzerland, Germany and Italy. She loved to spend time at the beach with her family. She loved to drive. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her strength of character, love of life and faith will be remembered by her family and friends. The family thanks the staff of Teresan 6A for the care provided to Margaret. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2015 in the Infant of Prague Chapel in the Teresian House Nursing Home, 200 Washington Ave., Extension, Albany, NY 12203. A visiting hour will precede the service from 10 - 11 o’clock. Burial will be in the Town of Catskill Cemetery.
