Obituary of Marta Ester Rodriguez

Colonie - Marta Ester Rodriguez, 75, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2015. She was born in Belize City, Belize, the daughter of the late Francisco and Ines (Perdomo) Cervantes. Ester was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia and earned a Masters in Microbiology from Wagner College. Ester was a Clinical Microbiologist retired after many years from New York Presbyterian-Columbia Medical Center; she truly enjoyed the sciences, cooking for her family and cheering on her favorite sports teams. She is survived by her loving children, Yiselle Rodriguez Ruoso (Otello) and Francis Rodriguez and her cherished grandchildren, Joseph Kevin Ruoso and Gabriella Rodriguez Howenstein. She is also survived by her siblings, Lydia Martin, Sr. Maria Elena Cervantes, RSM, Francisco Cervantes and Carlos (Mildred) Cervantes and many nieces and nephews. Ester was predeceased by her beloved husband Hector Rodriguez and brother Santiago Cervantes. Her deep faith and devotion to the success of her family defined her life. Ester's memory will be greatly treasured by the lives she touched. Funeral services are Thursday, May 28, 2015 at 9 a.m. at Reilly and Son Funeral Home, 9 Voorheesville Avenue, Voorheesville, and 10 a.m. at St. Matthew's Church, Mountainview St., Voorheesville, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited and may visit Wednesday, May 27, 2015, 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Following the Mass, Interment will be held Thursday, May 28, 2015, at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
