Obituary of Maureen Courtney

Loudonville - Maureen Grimley Courtney, 83, of the Loudonville Home for Adults died Friday, January 6, 2012 at the Albany Memorial Hospital. Born in Dublin, Ireland and raised in the Bronx, NY before moving to Massapequa Park in 1955. She retired to Tom's River, NJ in 1994 with her husband Joseph. In Massapequa Park she worked for 25 years at Macy's, was a member of the Rosary Society and President of Ladies Auxillary (Does) of the Elks Organization. In Toms River, she was a member of the Red Hats Society. In addition to gardening, she was a painter. Maureen was the wife of the late Joseph M. Courtney; mother of Kevin Courtney (Deborah) of Upper Montclair, NJ, Joseph Courtney of Rochester, Brendan Courtney (Kim) of West Islip, NY and Maureen John (Wesley) of Albany; sister of Arthur T. Grimley (Eleanor) of Alexandria, VA and the late Patricia Gibbons; and grandmother of Brian Courtney, David Courtney, Michael Courtney, Gregory John and Elizabeth John. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral mass at the Parish of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell St., Albany, NY 12208 on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ. Maureen's family would like to thank the staff at Albany Memorial Hospital and Community Hospice of Rennselear and requests that donations in memory of Maureen be made to the Community Hospice, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144.
