Obituary of William L. O'Toole

Surrounded by his daughters, William L. O'Toole, 100 years old, peacefully entered into eternal life at his Albany home on Monday evening, April 4, 2011. The son of the late Charlotte Robertson and Robert J. O'Toole, he was born in Albany on October 15, 1910. The oldest of 7 children, he was predeceased by his siblings and their spouses: Paul (Lauretta), Rosalind Lang (George), Elinor Becker (Harry), Robert, Charlotte Wuerdeman (Bill) and John (Lorraine).
Raised in Rensselaer, NY, he graduated from St. John's Academy, Class of 1928.
An accomplished musician, he formed his own dance band, The High Hatters, with some of his classmates in the 30's. In 1937, he married Margaret E. Kirsch and
together they raised three daughters, Virginia Bailey (Peter) of Jackson, NH, Maureen Gomez ( Edgar) of Houston, TX and Charlotte O'Toole of Boxford, MA.
Bill had career in public service that spanned 47 years with New York State. He retired in 1981 as Executive Deputy Industrial Commissioner of the Department of Labor.
For 78 years, Bill was a member of the Rensselaer Knights of Columbus Council #267 where he was a Past Grand Knight and honorary life member.
At All Saints Catholic Church in Albany (formerly St. Margaret Mary's) he was an active member for over 70 years where he served as Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Trustee, Parish Council member and chair for many fund raising events. He was active in the Nocturnal Adoration Society for more than 40 years and served as President.
He loved reading and admired good writing, often clipping columns and saving letters. He continued to enjoy The New York Times crossword puzzles until recent weeks.
Bill was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret in 1980 and by his second wife Mary Carusone Schepisi in 2009.
Bill is survived by his daughters, 9 grandchildren,14 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Friends and family are invited to call at All Saints Catholic Church in Albany on Friday afternoon from 3 - 6 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday April 9, 2011 at 9:30 at All Saints Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush.
